Rumour: Newcastle chase £1m Liverpool ace!?!

Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is eyeing up Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia to help solve the clubs defensive problems.

Hyypia is still an important member of the first team squad at Anfield, making 27 appearances so far this season. However the 34 year old is getting ever closer to the end of his current deal at Anfield and Liverpool are only believed to be prepared to offer the Finnish star a short term extension.

Hyypia is looking for some more long term security and feels he has several years left in his legs at the top level. Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is hoping to take advantage of this by offering the veteran a longer deal to move to St James' Park and is believed to be lining up a £1 million bid for the star.
